Why should you invest in dance class?

Why did I invest in dance class?

As someone who has the opportunity to experience dance as a teacher as well as a mom, I have a unique perspective and appreciation for dance.

For me personally, dance has been an opportunity to feel emotions in a way that can’t be expressed through words alone. Dance has been a way to explore my body, invite creativity to flow, challenge my sense of self, find connection with mind and body and just have a darn good time!

With that background and understanding of what dance has done for me, I have been able to witness dance bringing things to my own children. I have seen how dance has brought my children confidence, community, an understanding of their body, weekly exercise, a sense of responsibility and belonging. A lot right?!  Dance is so special because it allows kids to explore creativity and art in an athletic environment. You are understanding and pushing your body while at the same time exploring your creative sense of self!

Dance class doesn’t always come cheap in monetary form but it certainly pays out in what you are taking away from your investment. When someone takes a dance class it is more than a physical exercise. Students walk into a dance class with the opportunity to learn something new and challenge their brains to grow! They have the chance to unlock things within themselves that will bring confidence and pride. They have the chance to support classmates in an environment where many are being pushed outside of their comfort zone. As famous modern dancer, choreographer, and teacher Martha Graham once said, “dance is the hidden language of the soul”. Dance is truly an opportunity to speak words in a way that you can’t otherwise speak.

I have taught dance in a variety of places, including 5 different states, over the last 20+ years and I can say with a lot of confidence that LDP stands above the rest. LDP offers not only quality dance training but with a healthy, well rounded perspective on dance as an art. LDP is very intentional about what the dancers are learning, working towards, being exposed to and performing. The faculty works as a team for each student’s success and uses a set curriculum to make sure we are staying focused on our growth within class as we teach through the season.

Dance has provided an opportunity for my daughters to not only be challenged but to then in turn feel successful. To find pride within themselves for their achievements and accomplishments. Dance has given them an understanding of and appreciation for their bodies. It has allowed them to create friendships with others who also love dance. The impact dance has made on my daughters is seen in the small moments at home when they dance to just feel good. They dance to smile and laugh. They dance to connect with one another. They dance to work hard and try new things.

Dance moves me to tears through teaching it, watching it and experiencing it with my own children.
