10 Ways to Help Your Dancer

10 Ways to Help Your Dancer

  • Why did I invest in dance?

I invest in dance because my daughters love it and I believe it’s important to support their passion for it.

More importantly, I love that dance teaches them how to be on a team and how to be committed to their team. This will serve them all throughout their lives.

They are learning time management which is another valuable life skill.

It also gives them a feeling of purpose and to set personal goals for themselves.

  • What do I wish I knew on day one?

I can’t think of anything I wish I knew on day one as I have learned more each year and it just needs to be experienced.

  • How do I help  my dancer?

Support their training schedule and get them to their classes and events on time. Read their Band chat group posts and help your dancer keep up with the important information. If you and your dancer both read it, there is less chance that nothing will be missed (this is from my personal experience as a class mom)

  • What is it like to see my dancer on stage?

I absolutely love watching my daughters perform, knowing that they are loving it too. The choreography and productions never disappoint!

  • What do I do when my dancer comes home crying?

Try to understand what they’re upset about and determine if it’s something they need to address and if it is, guide them in how to do that

  • How do I support my dancer in school when dance gets overwhelming?

Help them break it down and come up with a plan to make it feel more manageable

  • What are some questions other dance moms ask me?

How to put on the fake lashes!

  • What is the best way to prepare myself and my dancer for a show?

Make a checklist of everything you need to have and bring to the show.

Triple check that you have the costumes and required accessories. It’s always smart for you and your dancer to go over the list and ensure they have everything.

Remember that no undergarments should show under dance costumes.  For costumes that have a built-in leotard, underwear is really not necessary – especially for younger dancers. We should not see panty lines, hanging underwear, bra straps or prints under costumes. We want your dancers to look their very best, and feel good about what they are wearing so they can shine on stage!
