Mommy and Me: Dance
Ages: 6 months-2 years old
Sitting still can be kind of tricky, but that’s okay! This class is designed to introduce your baby to movement and to encourage body awareness in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Through imaginative play combined with dance and music, your child will explore feelings, words, sounds and relationships with others. Who will have more fun? Mommy or me!?
Parents participate with their child.

 
Mommy and Me: Tumbling
Ages: 2-3 years old
Learn to tumble with your toddler. This class is made to introduce your toddler to basic tumbling skills such as rolls, cartwheels, handstands and bridges. Your child will develop strength, flexibility, balance and control all while staying within the safety of your reach.
Parents participate with their child.

 
Tiny Tutus
Ages: 2-3 Years Old
Watch your toddler transform into a ballerina! This class will provide a fun and imaginative place for young minds to gain confidence and creativity. Through the use of playful music and some props to support movement, dancers will explore how they can move while also developing motor and listening skills.
Parents will be welcome to observe the last 5 minutes of their last class of the month.


Tiny Tutu Tappers I
Ages: 3-5 Years Old
We’ll twirl around, act like princesses, and then top it off with some tap! Tiny Tutu Tappers is designed to give your child an artistic environment in which to learn and grow. Throughout the year, these dancers will learn classroom etiquette as well as basic ballet and tap terminology and skills.  This class will start with 30 minutes of tap and then transition to 30 minutes of ballet. 
Parents will be welcome to observe the last 5 minutes of the last class of the month. 


Tiny Tutu Tappers II
Ages: 4-5 Years Old
Help spark and nurture your child’s love of dance with this artistic and lively class. Tiny Tutu Tappers II is structured to provide your child with a creative environment that will foster growth in confidence and musical appreciation. Throughout the year these dancers will learn classroom etiquette, memorization, musicality, as well as basic ballet and tap terminology and skills. This class will start with 30 minutes of tap and then transition to 30 minutes of ballet.  Teacher approval is required.
Parents will be welcome to observe the last 5 minutes of their last class of the month.


Tiny Tumblers
Ages: 4-5 Years Old
Tiny Tumblers is a fun, skill-oriented tumbling class for preschoolers. Children will develop strength, flexibility, balance and control.  Throughout the year, children will also learn basic tumbling skills including rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges and back handsprings.

Tutu Tumblers
Ages: 4-5
Tutu Tumblers is structured to provide your child with a creative environment that will foster growth in confidence and musical appreciation. Throughout the year these dancers will learn classroom etiquette, memorization, musicality, as well as basic ballet and tumbling terminology and skills. This class will incorporate 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tumbling.

Tiny Tutu Shakers
Ages: 4-5 Years Old
Tiny Tutu Shakers combines jazz and ballet to help develop your child’s coordination as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology. Dancers will learn classroom etiquette, memorization, musicality, as well as basic jazz and ballet steps.

Boyz Boogie
Ages: 2-3 Years Old

A class designed just for boys! Boyz Boogie is a movement class structured to stimulate the creative mind of a growing boy.  The boys will learn basic motor skills such as running, hopping, jumping, sliding, and leaping. We will also explore their imaginations with the use of music and props.

Boyz Boogie ‘N Tap
Age: 3-5 Years Old
Boyz Boogie N’ Tap is a high-energy class combining both creative movement and tap.  Dancers will develop musicality and coordination through the use of fun props and action packed music.  This class will start with 30 minutes of dance (no shoes required) and transition to 30 minutes of tap.

Boyz Boogie ‘N Tumble
Age: 4-5 Years Old
No girls allowed! Boyz Boogie N’ Tumble is an athletic class that blends creative movement and tumbling.  With the use of exciting themes designed just for boys, dancers will develop coordination, control, strength and rhythm. They will also learn basic tumbling skills.

Hip Hop

Classes will teach the basic techniques and foundations of hip hop, as well as how these can be used to create original movement. Students will also learn to pick up the instructor’s own choreography and gain an understanding of the message and motivation that lie behind it. While the class environment will always be fun-filled, students will be expected to have a “work first, play later” mentality.

Yoga for Dancers

Rooted in the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Power Flow, Project Fusion: Yoga was created to directly support and enhance the holistic Dance Education offered at Leighton Dance Project. Whether you dance or not, this dynamic practice will improve your stability, strength and flexibility while focusing on proper body alignment and the use of supportive breath. Learn to flow through postures (asanas) with a sense of balance and a calm mind. All levels of experience invited.

Pilates Fusion

Pilates Fusion is LDP’s unique approach to a dance-inspired method of fitness. Based on the principles of ballet-barre training, Pilates and yoga; this class will help transform your physique, whether you dance or not! Classes include traditional and contemporary conditioning, both at the barre and center floor.  Hand held weights, stability balls, Thera-bands and blocks are some of the props used to creatively challenge your strength and flexibility.  Upbeat music and a supportive environment will keep you inspired!  All levels of experience are welcome.​

Tap

Classes will explore various styles of tap dancing, including classical tap, rhythm tap, and musical theater tap. Each class will begin with a fun warm-up that focuses on technique and weight shifting, which will both enhance students’ ability to listen and help strengthen the clarity of their tap sounds. At the end of each class, they will learn a short combination that incorporates the steps covered during that class. This class format will encourage development in both a tap dancer’s rhythmic skill set and his or her ability to pick up choreography.

Modern Fusion

Modern Fusion is designed as an introduction to principles from the Horton and Graham modern dance techniques. Classes will focus on such concepts as contraction and release, weight shifting, body alignment, and strength gain, which are essential components of numerous styles of dance.

Jazz

Classes will cover a broad range of jazz dance styles, including theater jazz, contemporary jazz, and modern jazz. All styles emphasize principles such as lines of the body, axial and loco-motor movements, isolation, contractions, expansive movements, musicality, formations, ensemble work, and a strong performance quality. Jazz students will be expected to explore these concepts while striving to maintain correct technique and body alignment.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is the exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It seeks to express a choreographer’s vision or concept through the development of new movements, which may use elements from other existing dance styles but are not bound by any set stylistic standard. Though classes will require students to have a strong technical foundation as well as heightened attention to detail, they will also demand a creative and open mindset, as the development of improvisational skills will be crucial.

Ballet

Classes will emphasize strong classical ballet technique, based loosely upon the Cecchetti method. In higher-level classes, other styles will be incorporated so that dancers may become adaptable to any choreographer, company or style of movement. It is highly recommended that all dancers establish a strong foundation in ballet technique, as its principles of strength, alignment, form, and flexibility are essential to mastering most other dance styles.

Pointe

Classes will offer introductory instruction in the art of pointe technique to those dancers interested in the pursuit of professional-level ballet. Interested students must be between the ages of 11 and 15 and receive a recommendation from their ballet instructor to enroll in these classes.

Ballet Fusion

Ballet Fusion is designed for teen and young adult dancers with little ballet training but with experience in other styles of dance. Classes will focus on basic principles of ballet technique that will supplement students’ abilities in all styles. Students will strive to achieve the strength, grace, and poise associated with balletic movement.
